Our Principal/Nuestra Directora

Hortencia Hernandez, Principal/Directora

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! I hope you have had a restful and relaxing summer! I am looking forward to an exciting year. I am honored to be serving as the new principal of Beamer Park Elementary School. I have been received with such a warm welcome and I look forward to working alongside each and every one of you. I would like to welcome back all of our Preschool through 6th grade students and staff. I am excited to welcome all new incoming students, staff, and families, as we have added a Dual Language Immersion Transitional Kinder

class this year! We also have new staff members joining us this year. In Transitional Kinder, we have Maestra Leslie Ramos, and Maestra Mayra Molina-Garcia joining our 4th grade team. I'd like to welcome our new  RTI Specialist, Alison Kasta along with our new Resource Specialist Maestra Daisy Valenzuela and Title I Support, Jacqueline Bautista.

I bring with me to Beamer Park Elementary over 20 years of experience in education. My teaching career began shortly after graduating from UCLA, in South Los Angeles, where I taught and became a teacher leader for over ten years. Upon starting my own family, it was crucial to relocate to Northern California to be closer to family. I am a native of Winters and a proud product of migrant farm working parents. I taught in Esparto Unified for 5 years before coming out of the classroom to become the Director of English Language Development for TK-12, as well as the Vice Principal of our TK-8 School, and eventually Principal of our Middle School. I have worked in many facets of education, and I am honored to be joining an amazing family here at Beamer Park Elementary School. I join Woodland Joint Unified after serving as TK-8 Principal in Washington Unified the last three years. I am excited to bring my passion for education, love of learning and relationship building to our Beamer Park Familia and our community. I have met with some of our parents and staff and feel very welcome! This year will bring new opportunities for new challenges, goal setting, and growth!

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 21st. Our school day will begin at 8:30 am and it is important to assure that students arrive on time. The first day of school is a Wednesday with a 1:45 pm dismissal time.  All students will receive emergency cards along with back to school information. Please be sure to complete all forms and return with your child to his/her teacher. Back to School Night will be August 27th from 6:00 - 7:00 pm with a brief parent Title I meeting at 5:30 pm in our multipurpose room before classroom visits begin.

Kinder Orientation will be on August 20th from 12:30- 1:00pm. Class lists will be posted on Tuesday, August 20th after 4:00 pm in the front office. There will be an ASES parent meeting at Beamer Elementary on August 19th at 5:00 pm in our multipurpose room.

Safety is another priority for all of our students, staff, and families. As we know, drop off and pick up of our children tends to present some safety issues. I hope that parents can follow all safety procedures during drop off and pick up. Please remember to follow all safety procedures and be mindful of the limited parking spaces during drop off. For safety purposes, we encourage all students and families to cross the street at the crosswalks, park in designated parking areas and drop off is at Beamer Street entrance (not behind campus or staff parking lot due to safety). By following safety procedures, we model the importance of rules, regulations and expected behavior. We will have our crossing guards out to ensure the safety of all of our students and families daily. I am excited to be at Beamer Park Elementary to work with our students, staff and community members to foster a safe learning environment where every child will succeed and I look forward to an excellent year!
